Description:

The current state of the art of performance driven design dictates a multi-faceted approach that effectively responds to the vast complexity of contemporary architectural problems, from their conceiving and design processes to their construction and maintenance and throughout their life cycle. In this context, the ESR aims to propose an innovative methodology for the design of adaptive material systems that would enable a real time response to the constantly changing environmental parameters of the urban surroundings. Through the incorporation of state of the art simulation tools and by employing adaptive and programmable materials, it aims to produce a material system for optimal environmental performance. The focus of the ESR is primarily on the development of a design methodology and the respective development or interface of appropriate simulation tools that can support the design of an adaptive material system and secondarily on the development of material programming and fabrication methods to support the proposed methodology.
